Volunteer Expectations

What volunteers should expect before responding to opportunities.

Central Maryland pilot notice: These pages describe current working expectations for the pilot. They should be reviewed by appropriate ministry leadership and legal counsel before broader public reliance.

Before serving

  • Create an accurate volunteer profile with your location, service interests, skills, availability, travel radius, and practical resources.
  • Only express interest in opportunities you can realistically fulfill.
  • Wait for coordinator approval before expecting private requester information.
  • Read the public summary, category, timing, urgency, and safety notes before responding.

While serving

  • Serve with humility, reliability, respect, and attention to safety.
  • Stay within the approved scope of the assignment. Do not expand the work into sensitive or professional areas without coordinator review.
  • Protect private information and avoid sharing requester stories or photos without permission.
  • Do not pressure requesters to attend church, donate, share testimony, or participate in religious activity.

After serving

  • Update the assignment status and provide honest follow-up.
  • Report safety concerns, changed circumstances, incomplete work, or additional needs to a coordinator.
  • Remember that the goal is faithful service and relationship-oriented care, not platform statistics alone.
  • Use the Report a Concern path if a privacy, safety, conduct, or service-quality concern should be reviewed by moderators.
